In August 2025, Hutch Underwriting launched a pioneering landlord insurance product tailored for Australian residential property owners.
This new policy stands out by incorporating built-in cyber protection, addressing the growing digital risks landlords face in today's interconnected world.

The policy is designed for owners of various residential properties, including standalone houses, terraces, duplexes, and non-strata units, leased on both short-term and long-term bases. Coverage options encompass building and contents insurance, with additional protection for legal liability and digital threats.

Key features of the policy include:

  • Cyber Protection: Automatically included, offering up to $10,000 for expenses related to data breaches or cybercrime, ensuring landlords are safeguarded against digital threats that could compromise sensitive tenant information or disrupt rental operations.
  • Optional Benefits: Landlords can opt for additional covers such as theft by tenants, rent default, and loss of rent, providing flexibility to tailor the policy to their specific needs.

Dominique Vagi, Chief Underwriting Officer and co-founder of Hutch Underwriting, highlighted the importance of addressing cyber risks in the real estate sector. She noted that cyber incidents can disrupt essential operations like rent collection and tenant communications, making cyber protection a crucial component of modern landlord insurance.

This innovative offering reflects Hutch Underwriting's commitment to providing comprehensive and forward-thinking insurance solutions that cater to the evolving challenges faced by property owners in the digital age.
